Constance Lake First Nation has the authority to enact laws regarding the development, use, possession, and management of our reserve. 

These by-laws would override any conflicting provincial laws. Our by-law-making powers are considerable due to an (insert year of) amendment to the Indian Act prohibiting the federal government from disallowing by-laws.

Constance Lake First Nation also asserts its right to enact laws relating to aspects of its society not covered by Indian Act by-law making provisions, in order to honour Constance Lake First Nation laws, traditional knowledge, and protocols.

Constance Lake First Nation’s law-making rights are grounded in our inherent right to self-government protected by Canada’s Constitution Act and the common law and are highlighted by UNDRIP and DRIPA.

The Nation has enacted bylaws but has also put forth by laws purposed. We would like to share these by-laws to put emphasis as to which laws were already purposed.
